hello to all !
\windows\system32\config\system missing or corrupt
tou can attempt to repair this file by starting windows set-up using the original set up CD-ROM

this is what I get when I open my toshiba M45 S359 using windows xp...
nothing works anymore !
F8 + safe mode is inoperative, and I can't access the recovery console.
therefore here is some questions :
- is there a way to recover files from it before trying any repair ?
- I do not have an original set up CD-ROM and no windows XP disk either. I do have a toshiba recovery and applications/drivers DVD. if I use it do I loose my files ?
- the M45 is a laptop, I have a working desktop under windows XP (hp pavilion 735 w). is there a way I may use it to help recover and repair the toshiba ?

thanks !

The original set-up CD-ROM may be of assistance but read everything carefully before you press anything, otherwise they will wipe the machine if you're not careful. Boot off of it and see what happens.

Yes. It'll restore your computer to "day one" status.
You need either Windows XP CD (you can borrow one to run Windows repair, but the disk must include SP3), or you can hook up your hard drive as a slave in another computer to recover your data.

You will need a adapter to hook it as a slave in your desktop. It's a 2 1/2 drive converter. Or a HD case that will take a laptop drive and a USB connection to your desktop. You can get your files and then try to repair.
