I usually know what to do when it comes to these things but i have no idea how this happend, I came back from vacation and my noobie family had messed up the computer (Some computer guy came to fix the lost password and had to do a Factory Restart or something, now everything is lost and there's like a ton of spyware and probably viruses because they didn't install the norton protection)

I put a disk in the drive and it doesn't work,

I looked under my computer and the drive is not listed

I went into device manager and theres a notification sign on it and it says:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

I checked for solutions but nothing happends

I checked for updateds but it said my system is up-to-date

I googled my problem and came to this site with a similar post called: Cannot Install Driver For Tsstcorp Cd/dvdw Sh-s162a Ata Device
It said to uninstall driver then restart so i did and it tried but it said it did not install properly

So im stuck with the same problem, if anyone can please help i would really appreciate it
Let me know if I need to att. the dxdiag log and how to attach it
thank you

:) i juss wanna play sims 2

Apparently you need to get the drivers for your drive, or re-install them. Are you perchance using a Dell?

What is your disk-drive's model?

Grab the driver(s) you need from here, and we'll go from there.

Make sure you're basing your model off of what your computer says "i.e. stickers" or what the Dell Website says your computer model # is equipped with, not what you read on some website.

hello,
Let's have you uninstall the DVD-Drive and then have you reboot and let windows reinstall the drivers for it. To do this, do the following:
  • Go to START-->RUN and type devmgmt.msc
  • In the new window that appears, click the + symbol next to CD/DVD-ROM Drives.
  • Locate the drive in question and right-click it and choose UNINSTALL.
  • Once it's finishing uninstalling, reboot your computer.
Once it's rebooted, try putting a DVD in it again and see if the same thing happens.

----------------------------

If after rebooting you are still having problems, try the following:

Click Start then Run and type regedit...click "Ok"

In the left pane, expand (click +) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SYSTEM, then CurrentControlSet, then Control, then Class, and click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Right click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and choose Export. Name this file "filters" and save it to your desktop. This file can be deleted when it is determined it is no longer needed.

In the right pane, if either UpperFilters or LowerFilters are present, right click on it and choose Delete...accept the deletion. Delete both if they are both present.

Close Registry Editor and reboot.

----------------------------

If after doing that your drive still doesn't show up, please download CDGone from HERE. Once it's downloaded, extract the files to your desktop and open the READ ME FIRST.TXT file and follow the instructions there.

Post back with how things are going after doing the above.

I had the same EXACT problem and followed your instructions and WOW :) it's working. A few more questions. When I went to find {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} I actually found like 15 or so Identical listings - is this strange? Another question is that when I went to the dell drivers I could find CDRWDVD TS-H493B but my driver is :) CDRWDVD TS-H493A. I could not find CDRWDVD TS-H493A? Do I have an outdated driver? :)

Thanks - I had been slaving over this 2 days!! :killcomp: :upset:
