I have a dell inspirion e1705, and my computer is totally messed up. A couple weeks ago I noticed how the backlight started to fade on the left side, but when it wanted to all the lighting in the lcd screen would work fine for a while. A couple days ago I turned on the computer and the boot screen would show up, then I would hear a little screek and the screen will go completely black, but the computer was still on and running windows. I connected another monitor to my laptop and got it to show up, and I saw that not only was the screen not working, but windows will boot and go straight to a weird version of safe mode. I’m saying weird because it still shows the traditional windows xp theme, but it acts like safe mode. I can’t install or remove programs or connect to internet or have sound or paste anything or transfer files of any kind. I have tried going to msconfig and command prompt and telling it to start in normal mode, but no matter what it always starts in this weird safe mode. I am starting to suspect it could even be a major virus or malware or something……please help me….anybody know or have had this problem….please help!!!

Hi lennonmccartney, Welcome to the Geeks To Go help forums.

Sadly I don't have the expertise needed to give you an answer that would fix your problem, BUT I did notice that you were starting to suspect that you might have a virus or malware on your PC.

Why don't you jump over to this page --> http://www.geekstogo...-Log-t2852.html and follow all of the instructions on that page... well except for the instruction to "Click Here before posting a Hijack This log" as that will only take you around the world and then deposit you back on the same page that you were on to start with.

Just following all of those clean up\ clean out instructions can really work wonders for your system. Give it a go and if you're still having problems then you can post a HJT log.

If you do post a HJT log be sure to list everything that you have done to help yourself before posting it.

Good luck,

Wendy
