error in microsoft windows update

every time i try to update windows using IE6 there is always an error that say internet explorer has encountered problem and needs to close.. what do you think is the problem here? I'm using windows XP sp2.. thanks in regards..

Can you get on to any other sites? Are you trying to update to IE7? If so, the long, round about way would be to download Firefox and the IE TAB plug-in and go to the Windows update site from there. I've also had some problems with customers who're using IE6 lately, as well as problems with my own (I recently did a repair of Windows and haven't bothered to update to IE7 because I use Firefox almost exclusively.) Dunno if that helps you any, but it's a thought to try...
