SD Card Reader Is Not Working

I can't get my media reader to read a SD memory card.

I put the SD card in, and get the "Bing Bong" like its found something, then straight away : "Bing Bong" as if its are removing something.

There are no yellow cautions in Device Manager. I have tried inserting with device manager open, and it just flashes when I insert it, but then does not show anything. I have looked for it in Disk Management and nothing is there either. The SD card itself works in other computers. I have also tried other cards with same results.

I am using Windows XP Pro.

I have an hp compaq 6910p

Any ideas very much appreciated?
