Quick history.
I initially has XP Pro SP2 installed.
Some time ago I upgraded to SP3.
Recently I had a virus or something on my machine.
I attempted to repair XP, which effectively rolled my XP back to SP2.
Since then my internet access is cripplede, rarely working, using IE, or Firefox, or even FTP.
I cannot download XP Pro SP3.
(By the way I also cannot download any IE upgrade!)

By the way, hampering me along the way is the click.smartbizsearch.com virus which I am trying to get rid of. But I need to upgrade to SP3 first it seems. It's a bit of a Catch22.

Example 1
When I follow Microsoft's link: http://update.micros...microsoftupdate, it says it doesn't exist, and I get sent to msn.com
Example 2:
If I try and get to the Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers (http://www.microsoft...&DisplayLang=en) and click the "download" button, the browser then moves on to the next page, which says "Thank You for Downloading", and I wait for the downlaod to automatically start. But then my browser (Firefox, because my IE6 just falls over non-stop) says "Address Not Found" (http://download.micr...SP3-x86-ENU.exe).

So on eof two things is happening.
(A) These links actually don;t exist any more on teh Microsoft Site (and I have looked elsewhere unsuccessfully), or
(B) my "virus" is preventing me accessing them.

Can anyone help me please.

I would recommend taking care of your infection before attempting the SP3 again... Service packs don't really fix a current infection so it may be a good idea to head over to the malware section of these forums. Read the info on how to post a hijack log and wait for some help...

Other than that you could try obtaining the SP3 as a standalone download.

http://download.micr...SP3-x86-ENU.exe

or

http://www.microsoft...;displaylang=en

The fact you can't get to a microsoft site is abnormal. So head the malware section of these forums :)
