Check - got 'em!!

Now, a couple of things.

within this folder is another folder called bookmarkbackups - this folder contains 5 files all sequentially dated from 3rd October - I'd like to restore the one from yesterday, which leads me to my 2nd question - how do you actually do this?

These 5 files all have a .json extension

Those are backup files.
Go Bookmarks>Organize Bookmarks
Click Import and Backup, then Restore, and select the date.

For future reference, the original problem was caused by the "CustomizeGoogle" add-on
