Trojan.Vundo, Trojan.Win32 & Blue Screen of Death

Hi and Thanks for your site!!

A couple days ago, I updated to FireFox 3.0.2. Everything was fine and then I started getting a reinstall and although my Nortons 360 didn't catch anything, spybot started being hit with rundll32 chnage requests.

After shutdown and restart, the Vista Windows logon screen appears for 20-30 seconds and then the "blue screen" appears and computer crashes.

I can only run the computer in safe mode although I have network access. I've tried to restore to a early point and tried using last know good config, however, I still can't get by the log-in screen.

Your help is very appreciated!!

below is the HJT File: Please note that I have run "VundoFix.exe" which didn't find anything, but "Norman_Malware_Cleaner" did find a couple file infections.

Please be aware that I'm still a trainee here, which means my instructions have to be approved by an expert before I give them to you, so there may be a slight delay between my replies. Please take note of a few points that will help the fix go smoothly while I look over your log:
  • If you would like to receive email notifications when I reply to this topic, please click on Options at the top right corner of the topic and click on Track this topic. Select Immediate Email Notification and click Proceed.
  • Don't be afraid to ask questions if you're unsure about anything! There are no dumb questions here :)
  • Open notepad (Start -> Run, type notepad, press enter). Click on Format at the top and uncheck Word Wrap if it's on, this will make your logs mch easier for me to read.

A question for you:

What do you mean when you say that you "started getting a reinstall"?

Also, if you haven't done this already, would you attempt to boot up into normal mode again for me? Do whatever you normally do that induces the blue screen to occur, and try to record the error message that it gives you for me. Post it here in your next reply so I can get an idea of what is causing the BSOD.

Your HijackThis log is clean of malware, so let's take a deeper look:

1. Random's System Information Tool
  • Please download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here.
  • It is important that is saved directly to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)
Note: It is likely that the 2 logs will be very long and may not fit into one reply. If that's the case, please split them up into multiple replies and ensure that you've posted the contents of the logs to the last line, which should read ---EOF---.

So as a reminder, please post back with the answer to my question, the BSOD error message, and the 2 logs from RSIT.
