Hello crazyeagle

You can only log into the administrator account in safemode, you cannot do this in normal mode, this is why you cannot see this account. To see this account you must start your computer in safemode.

When the computer starts up keep pressing F8 and you will see a screen with loads of options, select safemode from there and it will continue to load. When you come to login you will see the administrator account.

Hello amw_drizz

This is something I have never heard of my-self, I just tried this my-self and this did not work for me so it must only be for xp professional, this user is on xp home this is why I got the user to go into safemode :)

You do not type HP_Administrator in that box, just type "Administrator" without the quotation marks and press enter, if you have passworded the main administrator account then put in the password details.

Hello crazyeagle

I have a few questions I would like to ask you.
  • What were you trying to fix with system restore?
  • Have you set up any account restrictions your-self?
For the account restrictions question, if you have not set any up and this has just come out of nowhere it maybe possible that you have some malware installed on your system. I would like you to get a check for malware over at our malware forum, please read my advice below

Please read the following topic here and then post your problem here.
Please post your problem there where our experts will be more than happy to assist you :)

When you get the allclear and all malware has been removed and this problem is still presant please return to this topic.

Hello crazyeagle

Thanks for doing that for me, about this account restriction I would like you to read the following Microsoft article.

Once you have done all that boot up the computer, upon bootup select F8 and enter safemode like we did before. When you come to the logon screen, in the username box enter "Administrator" without the quotation marks and press enter and see if you can enter this account.

Regards

Hello crazyeagle

Theres not much else I can think of so I will go towards doing a repair installation, this is not a format and you will not lose any data. Please read this post by admin. If at the end of the repair you do get asked to make any account please do not, just tell it to skip that step.

After and only after you have done the repair install please reboot and try my previous post again.
