Alright blue lady. May I ask what make and model pc you have?

For example "Dell Dimension 4600".

Do you remember the last time it was working, and do you remember any changes you made to your computer in any way from that point till the time it stopped working?

Do you have the model # of your dell? It should be on the front of the tower somewhere. It should also say what model it is.

Either that or a service tag number. But don't post any other numbers on here. The service tag is fine if you see that one.

You can try updating your chipset drivers. Download this and install it.

http://support.dell....mp;fileid=35409

Or this for a more direct download.
http://ftp.us.dell.c...et/Z0377C08.EXE

1. Click Download Now, to download the file.
2. When the File Download window appears, click Save (Windows XP users will click Save) this program to disk and click OK. The Save In: window appears.
3. From the Save In: field, click the down arrow then click to select Desktop and click Save. The file will download to your desktop.
4. If the Download Complete window appears, click Close. The file icon appears on your desktop.

Install

1. Double-click the new icon on the desktop. For example labeled R12345.EXE.
2. The Self-Extracting window appears and prompts you to extract or unzip to C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R12345.EXE. (Example path). Write down this path so the executable (Example - Setup.exe) file can be found later.
3. The Self-Extractor window appears.
4. Click OK.
5. After completing the file extraction, if the Self-Extractor window is still open, close it.
6. Click the Start button and then click Run.
7. Type C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R12345 in the Open textbox and then click OK.
8. Follow the on-screen installation instructions.
***************************************

PS: For future reference your Dell model is "OptiPlex GX240"

An edit on step #7. Instead of what they said to put in "run" you can paste this in C:\dell\Drivers\0377C

You may not even need to do that as when you extract the file it automatically opens an internet window with an "Install" button which you can use instead.

Did you install it or just extract it or both?

Long as you are sure you downloaded the file and saved it to your desktop, opened and extracted it, then installed it go ahead and restart your computer and see if that by chance fixes the issue.
