I can't remove any programs in safe mode.
I have to move this Friday so please keep this open until I get situated in the new place.
We were hit by IKE and moving is the best thing to do at this time.
Thanks and talk you next week.

To answer your question, when I try to remove Dell Support program in safe mode this is what box pops up.
I have never required safe mode to remove a program and this SOB is a first......and it didn't work.
Dell sure can be a pain with their software.
Thanks,
Mike

#1 hit ctrl+alt+del to open your task manager.
#2 click the "process" tab.
#3 Search for the sprtcmd.exe (or anything with then name) then right click it and "end process tree".
#4 If it kills it then attempt the uninstall once again.
If the above doesn't work, try these next few things.

http://www.appdeploy...etail.asp?id=67
In the first one when they say
"Download Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com
Search for the handle (INDEX.MAP), it may be a service holding the file and if so you maybe have to stop the server before removing the file and then start it at the end of the removal of the applicaton.
The ServiceControl table will help you on this task."
Instead look for a handle that has the sprtcmd.log attached to it or sprtcmd.exe

I'm in the last of the moving now so I don't have the time to try this.
I will have service at the new place planned for Monday and that will be the time I access the net again.
Too much going on between now and then - I hate moving.
Moving all the big stuff tomorrow AM so this is my last reply until Monday/
Please keep it open......thanks again for your assistance...it is greatly appreciated.

here's the fix for the sprtcmd.exe
for Microsoft® Windows XP
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type <regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\scrrun.Dll>.
The following message displays:
---------------------------
RegSvr32
---------------------------
DllRegisterServer in C:\Winnt\system32\scrrun.dll succeeded.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
for Microsoft Windows Vista
Click Start. Then point to Programs, then to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
Type <regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\scrrun.Dll>.
The following message displays:
---------------------------
RegSvr32
---------------------------
DllRegisterServer in C:\Winnt\system32\scrrun.dll succeeded.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Solution 2
If this does not solve the problem, download and reinstall Windows Script Host (WSH) 5.6 from the Microsoft Support Site.

#2 click the "process" tab.
#3 Search for the sprtcmd.exe (or anything with then name) then right click it and "end process tree".
#4 If it kills it then attempt the uninstall once again.

Instead look for a handle that has the sprtcmd.log attached to it or sprtcmd.exe
Now give this a try if you did not.

The file on the Dell website was marked as a patch, DCS20.exe, but it installed the full Support Center on my Voatro 1000.My bad...
http://downloads.del...port_center.exe
Or
http://www.dell.com/.......&redirect=1
Better yet, this version 2.1.08044 dated 3/5/08 didn't have the shutdown error that the original version that came with my machine in January 2008.
I uninstalled the original version using TaskManager to end sprtcmd.exe as noted here and rebooted before installing the downloaded version.
Many thanks for the help.
John
