I keep getting this pop up message about my graphics card whenever I try to load any sort of game. It says:

"Failure to enumerate any DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapters in this system!
Please make sure you have a DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest manufacturer provided driver.
The application will now terminate..."

I went to the Nvidia site and downloaded the most recent drivers but the message still comes up. What exactly am I missing here? I'm not computer savvy at all when it comes to graphic cards and my brother isn't home(he's the one who usually fixes my computer)

It was running just fine yesterday.

Hi Bwinney

If you could post your system's specifications, that might help a little further.

First you could try completely uninstalling the device from your computers Device Manager, rebooting, and installing the drivers.

4. Game displays errors when starting such as "Failed to find a Direct X 9.0c compatible graphics adapter" or "Graphic Adapter failure".

This is normally caused by one of two things. Number one would be that the graphics card being used is way out of date and not capable of running the game. Number two would be that the graphics card driver being used is out of date, in this case installing the latest driver should work and as always drivers are available from the manufacturers website.

The supported video cards are:

Hmm so maybe I should try installing the drivers again? Is it possible they just didn't work the first time around? I'd really hate to have to go out and buy a new graphics card. Do things go out of date that fast? I mean I was playing my game two days ago with no problems.

Reinstalling drivers won't hurt.

Try deleting the drivers before you reinstall them, that way your working with a fresh installation. Also, when Troy asked for your system specifications, I believe he meant stuff like your hardware. For example, what kind of video card do you have? If you don't know, then you can use GPU-z to find out.

Okay so I just used Uniblue Driver Scanner to scan my system for any out-of-date drivers and it gave me these two:

Via Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter
Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA ® Audio Controller

It gives me options to download these drivers but of course when I do that it wants me to buy a copy of Uniblue Driver Scanner and I don't want to do that just to download these drivers. Can I locate them online on a safe website? Would that be okay to do?

I never noticed that little yellow triangle with the ! in it. Could that be the source of my problem?

How do I find out what card I have? That's probably the dumbest question ever and I'm sorry if I'm making things complicated.

Okay so I did some digging under the control panel for Nvidia and it says: GeForce 7800 GS Is this the correct information?

There is a good chance. Are you with Win 2000, or XP?

Go Start>Run, type in:
devmgmt.msc
Click OK.
What is listed under "Display adapters"?
