My daughter has this on her system(smitfraud). Since she doesn't really have anything important on her system would I be correct to assume doing a complete reformat and install(win 2000 pro) would eliminate the mess from this? She has Norton AV 2005 but it must not have caught it.

Reformatting would be a very easy way to remove this virus or any other infections if you format the drive during setup- make sure you back up all your files and have the drivers nessasary for video/audio/chipset...etc if you need them after you are done reformatting

Thanks for the quick answer Soxrox. I thought that would be correct. I am going to buy Win XP home for it, I had another license for Win 2000 Pro for my two machines, bought a 3 license deal. Her son, my grandson is having problems getting some of his games to play with pro , maybe the new op. system will help. I built hers and mine, so I have all disc's nesecary. Just wanted to make sure it didn't get into the bios(system). I have heard some virus's do that but it is probably a he said/she said deal. I was going to ask that also but didn't want to ask two seperate questions in one post. New site user here and am very impressed with the knowledge on this site. I read all the questions and answers and file them away in my feeble brain for future reference, will probably have to come back to them though...sigh, grey hair sysndrome :tazz:
