I have been looking at this for a while, and still cannot figure out what is going on.

Attached is a file showing the error that I get when launching the program. I researched on Google and tried the Gear Software drivers tat worked so well for other people with this issue. My Disk Drive is a Blue Ray Disk Drive (Read only) with DVD Burning capabilities, so I'm not sure if this is part of the issue. I haven't tried to burn anything yet, but would like to have that opton. I have tried re-installing Quicktime, and iTunes, and installed both the 64 bit and 32 bit versions.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks,

-Matt

if your running the latest versions of Itunes (8.x), then perhaps this might work:

See this article (but there are a number of strings of folks with unsolved problem on Apple discussion forum).

http://docs.info.app...l?artnum=302976

and then this info as well:

iTunes 8 Loses CD & DVD Import & Burning Drivers
September 11, 2008 in CD Burning, DVD Burning, Drivers, Errors, Multimedia, Windows, iTunes
Tags: CD, DVD, Errors, How To, iTunes, Solutions, Windows

It seems that some users installing iTunes 8 on Windows systems are encountering an error message:

“ERROR: The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning cds and dvds are missing… Please re-install iTunes”

iTunes uses GEAR software drivers for importing and burning CD’s & DVD’s. Re-installing (or installing the latest GEAR drivers seems to fix this problem. No reboot required for this install.

You can get the current GEAR drivers here: http://www.gearsoftw...ort/drivers.cfm

If this does not fix your problem download a fresh installer for iTunes here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Uninstall iTunes, reboot, & then do a fresh install of iTunes.

Most of this info was obtained from this thread

Quick revision to my previous reply.

Before Posting I had tried the Gear Drivers, and they didn't work. I tried installing and uninstalling in every combination that I could but they didn't work. The best bit of advice in the above comment was the first link that you posted. I tried the solution and was able to get the iTunes program working without questioning me... but the problem is after a reboot, the BD Drive no longer works and cannot start. I change the registry back to normal and the drive works flawlessly.

Any ideas on what else could be done? Thanks for the help so far!

After trying to re-do the registry thing, I seem to have caused the computer to be wrecked greatly. I Tried System restores and my Backups from the Registry to no avail. In the end I re-formatted the computer, and it seems that this solved the problem, although I would have preferred not to run a clean install. Thanks for all the help!

Good morning,
I just wanted to add my experience to the group.

After uninstalling iTunes multiply times to no avail, :) I went out and found this and another discussion group.
I followed everyone's advice, still no resolve.
Nothing was working, not the registry changes, the Gear drives, nothing.

Then, I noticed that my system wasn't recognizing my CD/DVD burners.
So, I decided to put my registry back to the original order it was in.
Then, what I did was uninstall , Gear drivers.
I restarted my system, and voila!!!!!!!
My system is not only back the way it was, but I can open and close iTunes without a single problem.

My theory is, that uninstalling the Gear drivers, forced my own system to look for the appropriate drivers it need to do it's job.

I hope this will help some of the rest of you.

Happy weekend!!!!!!! :)

I recently had to send my computer in due to a virus and had everything wiped and reinstalled. I had Itunes Ver. 9 installed. I am getting the same message when I open Itunes about registry drivers. Device Manager shows no problems with hardware. Can someone please tell me how I can fix this problem? I have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop using Windows XP.

I appreciate any assistance anyone can give me.
