I downloaded AOL Instant Messaging and Yahoo IM but after awhile of usage, my computer, at both times, would crash. I had to replace of the the hardware and rebuild my computer from scratch. What's the problem?
It's been quite a number of years since I've used IM and I'm looking to use it again soon. What precautions and actions should I take to prevent such a problem from happening again?

Well with any Instant Messenging program you need to be careful of who you talk to and what links you go to. If you want to protect your computer than this would be the best way to go.

First, get yourself an Anti-virus program and update it often. We recommend Avg. Click here to download AVG

Next would be to get spyware blaster which prevents spyware from getting onto your system. Also remember to update it. Link to SpywareBlaster: http://www.geekstogo...tion=show&id=12

A pop-up blocker like Google toolbar is very useful. http://toolbar.google.com

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

Finally if any spyware gets on your computer then it would be wise to run Spybot S&D and Adaware Scans.

CLICK HERE to download Spybot S&D

Any future problems you can post here.
