ok in advance i ty for any help

i have a HP cd writer 9100 series

sometimes it reads cd's fine i open door put cd in all ok
then sometimes i open door put cd in the light blinks then goes off i have to open and close door some times 5-6-7- times b4 it will read it

i tried cleaning cd with ait and head cleaner same results


any help is great
and i thank you in advance for anything you might know

Okay, now for something helpful:

How old is the drive? The discs it needs to try a few times before reading, are they in good condition (not badly scratched)?

I have an old stereo that has exactly these symptoms, but my guess is it's just old. When I can afford it, I'll just replace the stereo. Fortunately for you, an optical drive is cheap and easy to replace yourself, if yours is failing.
