HP laptop booting to eSATA? Issues.

I have a DV6885SE HP laptop. I bought the ExpressCard eSATA II 2-Port from Bestbuy (For $19.00!) and then a generic e-sata dock, similar to this (But without the extra USB or card readers) I would like to boot to XP on a 74GB Raptor.

I copied my XP install to the drive, planning to simply point grub to (hd1,0) (Hard drive 2, partition 1... For internal, it is (hd0,0) for OSX, (hd0,1) for XP, and (hd0,4) for Ubuntu)) But this did not work. I tried (hd1,0), (hd1,1), (hd2,0), (hd2,1). None worked. But I think the problem is more of Grub not seeing the card than the config file being wrong.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi there,

I should think the issue is that GRUB is unaware the card is installed - as you have mentioned. I don't know if you need to install drivers within GRUB to get it to work, or if this is even possible.

My suggestion is that you'll get more help in the Linux section of this forum. I'll alert a moderator to move it for you.
