Hello,

I just got a WD 500GB External HD and I plugged it into the USB port and Windows XP detected it, and said my new hardware is working properly, but I do not see it in My Computer. Does anyone know how I can get it to display the external drive?

Thanks,

Steve

It most likely needs to be formatted.
Look in administrative tools under computer management and then disk management to see if it is there.

Yes it is there it says its:

Partition
Basic
Healthy (GPT Protective Partition)

it makes the plug and play noise when you plug it in, just like a USB flash drive. But nothing shows up. I don't even know the corresponding letter to the drive.
