hey there
how are you
i inserted my flash drive and deleted a file when all of a sudden windows crashed and i saw the usb icon changed to a file icon
and when windows crashes a bar pops out all of a sudden at the left corner onto the top saying personalize settings
i tried formatting the micro sd flash the usb icon returns but when i reconnect again the file folder appears again this is weird

i also added a pic please see it could a virus messed up the registry or auto run.inf

oops i think i posted in the wrong section i am using windows XP

Hello shadow17

Welcome to GTG

I am not a Staff member here...

Yes you are in the wrong forum

You may want to contact an Administrator and have them move / Shift this topic to its correct location

As for your problem... VERY strange...

I have never heard of this happening befor ( sorry i cannot assist you further )

Anthony

PS: Have you tried to google the problem and look for a method to fix the problem ??? ( May be worth giving a go )

HINT: 90% of problems can be resolved by using google as a research resource

Edited: I just found this...

If it is only the Icon that is the problem...

This site: http://www.jauhari.n...ur-usb-disk.jsp

Tells / has Instructions on how you go about changing the icon

Good luck and hope you can resolve the issue from that link

Anthony

i think there is something funny going on in the flash see after creating the auto run from the site when i copied it to the flash it said if i want to replace the autorun inside the micro sd i was scrolling up and down and was suprized that it wasnt there after i replaced it the auto run automatically disappeared i disconnected and reconnected the icon didnt change lool
i think my problem is go to do something with either the registry or auto.inf

When you say Quote: " i inserted my flash drive and deleted a file "

What file is it you deleted ? ( Do you remember anything specific about it , or was it a file you know ? )

In that case... i think you should contact admin and have this topic moved to the malware forums

While you are waiting you can start by visiting this link here:http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Must-Read-Before-Posting-Hijackthis-Log-t2852.html

As you will be directed to do so anyway :)

Sorry i cannot help you resolve this topic , this one is a job for the malware removalist...

Flash drive infections are very common - Anthony was correct in directing you to the malware forums. Someone there can definitely help you out.

The idea of posting in the malware forum is a good one because by your description it looks like a malware infection.

I have seen this problem a number of time before. My experience is that the change of icon type is meaningless for all practical purposes. You can approach the files in your flash drive without any problem. I haven't seen this problem for quite sometimes but as far as I remember there was no way back and I couldn't change the icon back to "normal". If, after malware cleanup, the wrong icon remains, just leave it at that.

well i hope so thank you all i posted my hijack this log and waiting for someones reply :) :)

if the icon doesnt change back to the normal i will just create my own flash icon thats all but better check the log first incase of viruses hiding here and there :)

i might also think of being a malware specialist maybe or not sure yet since college and all of that but it seems interesting and a lot of hard work ofcourse
