I've posted on the malware section as the problems i had were similar to the problems i had when i last had malware problems. However, one of the malware experts there had a good look at the system and found no malware issues, but he did suggest i post here as there were other problems:

Error - 24/10/2008 09:56:59 | Computer Name = SCOTT-932876640 | Source = System Error | ID = 1003
Description = Error code 000000b8, parameter1 00000000, parameter2 00000000, parameter3
00000000, parameter4 00000000.

Error - 24/10/2008 05:06:58 | Computer Name = SCOTT-932876640 | Source = Service Control Manager | ID = 7001
Description = The Wireless Zero Configuration service depends on the NDIS Usermode
I/O Protocol service which failed to start because of the following error: %%1058

These indicate driver errors and also a wireless subsystem error. Unfortunately this is outside of my area of knowledge

I would recommend posting in this section of the forum where the experts on this part of the system are. I would recommend posting the extras.txt only (do not attach)

Also let them know which if any drivers or hardware that you have recently changed

You are clear of Malware as far as I can see

Sorry I could not be of more help

look in the add/remove section in the control panel...how many AV programs do you have installed...
list all of the anti malware programs and firewalls you have installed...

your log is showing

I think i used some of those programs (McAfee, Panda etc) when i had malware problems a while back and couldn't use my normal AV programs. I thought i'd removed them all to be honest.

Looking in the add/remove section the only programs there are the following ones from that list in the log:

SymantecAntiVirus
SymantecFirewall
ZoneLabsFirewall

All the others are not in the add/remove section (Ahnlab, ComputerAssociates, Kaspersky, McAfee, Panda, Sophos, Tiny and Trend are not present).

Could it be a conflict between Internet Explorer and Firefox?

Firefox usually has display problems and IE has moments of real slowness. The real problem is that the computer restarts itself from time to time.

Not sure about all the details, but this is info about the system that is available on the tower:

Patriot - PT3420

3.4 GHz

Intel Pentium 4 Processor 550

1024 MMB DDR (512MBx2)

200GB HDD

Integrated SIS Mirage

and it uses XP home edition

Any other specific details that you need?

I'll give DriverMax a go now and see what it finds.

Internet explorer and firefox should not conflict. They are just browsers.

It actually found that quite a few drivers needed updating and some of the exsisting drivers on my computer were much older than the current available versions. I updated all the drivers (a lot of them were internet related drivers).

The computer seems to be running fine since i updated all the drivers and it has not restarted itself. There's still some problems with Firefox (sometimes the page reverts to a very basic display and can often fail to display some things at all). Not sure why that is, but it's obviously not a driver or malware issue.

Okay,

You could try uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, to see if that helps.
