Kaspersky Anti-Virus

Ok, so I have an issue. Evident, because if I didn't ~ I wouldn't be here.

I have been noticing some things coming up on my computer (eg: RUNDLL32.exe, WMISsomething something.exe) and had thought that my anti-virus protection would eliminate stuff like that.

Today, my system froze.... when I restarted the computer it came up in file check mode... and said that all this kaspersky stuff was not a valid path and it was being trunicated? Or something to that effect. The next thing I know.. my anti-virus protection has turned itself off.. The "File, Mail, Web" and some Start -Up Anti-Virus were all turned off... as well, so was the windows protection...

I apparently did something, the computer re-started and everything now seems fine but can you tell me what the [bleep] happened?? I got a file path message but couldn't print screen quick enough.

Any particular reason why an anti-virus protection program would just turn itself off?

Hi nemissus .
Could you please tell exactly which Kaspersky product you are using . The reason I ask is that when I used Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 I found it was a very interactive experience .i.e The Program asked a lot of questions of the user , and if you accidentally disallowed a process to run it was a bit of work to trace down where the option to "ALLOW" the process or App to run again .

That's just my hunch , aside from you having collected some Virus which has disabled Kaspersky (possible ?)

I haven't checked any more than about four processes from your Proactive Defense events log , but they all seem legitimate MS Files ?

I think you may have disallowed C:\WINDOWS\System32\RUNDLL32.EXE in the Proactive Defense module .

First thing I would suggest is looking into the possibility that this may be the case , visit the Kaspersky Forum , or read the Help file , cos looks like RUNDLL32.EXE has been disallowed .

As I said this is just my of the cuff reaction to reading your post , Kaspersky is a very powerful Anti Malware program , it is somewhat complex also :)
Please have a good read , especially about allowing processes which have been disallowed , and how to re-enable them .
Of course please report back to us as someone else may have different options and thoughts .

I think it's 7.0 but I could be mistaken...

its strange because it selectively chooses what it is going to delete... its detected a few viruses and whatnot (god I'm dumb when it comes to this shtuff)

Hi nemissus ,

Looking at the Anti Virus LOG you just posted there's obvious signs that Kaspersky has as you said Detected , Deleted , Disinfected some things .

From doing a quick Google search the term "Kyla" returns results Kyla is a Filipino R&B singer, and occasional actress.
Ring a bell ? There's a application tied in with her site it seems . (The official website of Kyla. The R&B PRincess of the Philippines. All about Kyla, Discography, Awards, Pictures, Downloads, Interactive, and more.) If you downloaded a App from there that's probably what the reference is about , some java exploit (?) Just guessing o.k.

A Malware script from myspace , probably , as the term IframeBof script may suggest .

If you also have a Symantec product ,i.e. Norton AntiVirus running , or installed this could explain your systems screwy behaviour . You cannot / shouldn't run to AV's at the same time , cause conflict and system errors , plus leave you unprotected .

I would suggest going to http://forum.kaspersky.com/ and asking the same questions you have here . They will have a tool to run GetSysteminfo utility which can tell them exactly what is running and installed on your machine , and get you back on track . Alternatively you could post in the Malware Forum here , but I would suggest contacting Kaspersky Labs and fix , Uninstall , ReInstall , figure if there's conflict with Symantec Product , Norton AntiVirus , as you most likely have a licensed Kapersky product their support will be invaluable at this time .
