I'm running Windows XP SP2 on a Dell 2350 and I can't get to the Windows
Update page to download anything. When I click on tools and then windows
Update, the webpage goes directly to MSN.com. Everything I try goes to
MSN.com. I did a full format of my hard drive and loaded all the drivers,
only to find that I still have the same proplem. I also used Seagate Wipe
Clean to no avail. This Computer is also on a network to my laptop, and now
the laptop is doing the same thing..
I'm Running Avast Anti-Virus and use Spybot also. I have also been infected
with Antivirus2008, but all I did was do a system restore to a previous date. Till this didn't work anymore.
Can anyone help me with this problem???

This program you are refering to is the one with virus??? The one that prompts you to download a antivirus software???(Which is actually a virus itself)

Yes, that's it. Go to the Malware Removal Forum, but be sure to read this before posting anything there.

Reformatting is a rather drastic solution (tho it's often the easiest.) Malware *can* be removed, it just takes some time.

Hmmmm...Dell right??? When u purchased your system...Those people would have given you a disc which mostly put "Operating system" or something like that...

It would be

Reinstallation CD
Microsoft windows XP ?????Edition
Including service pack ???

1 question...when u reformated your system,Was the antivirus 2008 gone???

xp home
including sp1
ordered sp2 cd and downloaded that

no the anti-virus was not gone, I don't know where to look for it. But I still have the same problem...getting into windows update..it won't let me in, it takes me to MSN.com
So, I searched for a wipe clean utility program, found SEAgate, burned it to a cd, ran it to do a wipe clean and I still have the same problem.

When you reformat your system,All files and including viruses will be gone!
Did you press F12 with the sp 1 CD inside your system to format?

mscobra,

Is it only Windows updates that take you to that page, or is it any website you try to go to?

no the anti-virus was not gone, I don't know where to look for it.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Reformatting, if you truly wiped your hard drive and reinstalled Windows, should have taken care of that. Do you mean you're still having issues with Antivirus 2008?
