Hi! My name is Diana and we are having problems with our computer, since some dodgy sites were visited. Initially the background went blue with this note about a fatal error that had occured caused by Trojan-spy.html.smitfraud.c, and since then I canīt place any other figure as wallpaper, plus the computer is running really slower than the usual and pop-ups are taking over, including "windows messages" saying that the system is running slower than the usual and that needs to be fixed with reliable software (in other words, more pop-ups) Before this incident it never had happened, it seems that the msn pop-up blocker isnīt working anymore. Also an intrigating note have showed in my TDS-13 scan results, that the file autoexec.bat doesnīt exist in the system (how come?) :tazz: And finally thereīs also that annoying yellow exclamation flashing all the time in the right corner. We have followed all the instructions in this site before this post, and apparently the system is clean. But still the problems persist. Hereīs the Hijackthis log and I would politely request that some of you could help me out. Thanks a lot in advance.
Sincerely ;)
D Moura.

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Disable SpywareGuard and the Resident Protection of Microsoft AntiSpayware for as long as it takes to get you cleaned.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following programs, if found:

Security IGuard
Virtual Maid
Search Maid

Exit Add/Remove Programs.

*IMPORTANT* Be sure you know how to VIEW HIDDEN FILES

Press CTRL ALT DELETE to open Windows Task Manger. Click on the Processes tab and end the processes that were identified as related and any of the processes named in the list a bit further down.
C:\WINNT\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\WINNT\System32\msole32.exe
C:\WINNT\popuper.exe

Download and doubleclick the file http://www.bleepingc...g/smitfraud.reg
Confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

*Click Here to download Killbox by Option^Explicit.
*Extract the program to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
*In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\wp.exe
C:\wp.bmp
C:\bsw.exe
C:\WINNT\sites.ini
C:\WINNT\popuper.exe
C:\WINNT\System32\helper.exe
C:\WINNT\System32\intmonp.exe

C:\WINNT\system32\msole32.exe
C:\WINNT\System32\shnlog.exe
C:\WINNT\System32\intmon.exe
C:\WINNT\System32\msmsgs.exe

*Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
*Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

Shoot me. :tazz:

That should have read Spyware Vanisher (if it has one) and Spybot S&D (which from the looks of your log is not enabled)

I have no idea what I was reading with my other eye. I apologize.

Not this time, hehe... (Joking, no problem)Ļ
Well here goes a fresh log, after I have done all what you said. The blue screen no longer appears, but a black one. The annoying triangle either, neither pop-ups. But the computer is still slow....

OK. :tazz:

I'll list some programs that do not need to start everytime.
They are not malware so if you see something you want to have handy at all times skip it.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RealTray] C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exe SYSTEMBOOTHIDEPLAYER
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroCheck] C:\WINNT\system32\NeroCheck.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [InCD] C:\Program Files\Ahead\InCD\InCD.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinampAgent] C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe

O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe
O4 - Global Startup: SpySubtract.lnk = C:\Program Files\InterMute\SpySubtract\SpySub.exe

Reboot and let me know how the speed is.

Click Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up Taskmanager.

Check if you notice any processes using up a lot of CPU cycles or memory.

Let me know which one(s)

Hi Pieter. I was checking the processings tab and thatīs what Iīve found, which I consider large compared to the rest:

IEXPLORE.EXE - 16,540 kt
and then once again IEXPLORE.EXE - 5,972 kt
VSMON.EXE - 7,580 kt

Also Iīd like to ask you about this error message that appears quite often now, which wasnīt happening before: Error message Line 13 Error: Object doesnīt support this action. Sometimes can be another different error message, but this is the most common I guess.

I greatly aprecciate your help, thanks a lot already!

Cheers
