- Pentium 4 2.8GHz
- Asus P4GV-LA mobo
- 1 GB RAM
- 30GB Primary drive
- 80GB Data drive
- CD Burner
I want to be able to use this machine for a backup server for our laptops.
I will definitely be upgrading to at least a 250GB (if not a 500GB) hard drive. I can get a 250GB drive from my distributor for about $60, and a 500GB drive for $75 (right now) so I'm leaning toward the 500. I'd probably also put another 1GB RAM stick in.
What I'm wondering is if I should just look at upgrading the whole beast.
From my distributor (As of today) I can get:
- Asus P5SD2-VM mobo - $45.30
- Intel Core 2 Duo E5200 2.5GHz - $83.16
- Kingston ValueRAM DDR2 667 2GB - $24.83
- Pioneer DVR-216D 20X - 25.76
Total - $179.05
I don't want to put a huge amount of money into the thing, since I'm only going to be using it as a backup server.
What do you guys here recommend? Should I keep the current system and only upgrade the hdd? Or should I upgrade the whole thing?
