I'm having the same issue. It's been ever since I got a new Dell laptop with Window's Vista. I've gone through all of the same motions, proxy settings, LAN, firewall settings, etc...and still no help. I just got a new iphone and it has become crucial that I get it to work!

Did you ever get it figured out? If so, how did you resolve the issue?

Thanks!

Hi,
This has been a problem for a lot of itunes users. To fix this, go to your antivirus and or firewall and temporarily disable them and then check if itunes works again. This seems to be the most common problem.

Reply back if it doesn't work :)

I had this same problem with itunes from a very fast internet connection. Just stopped working one day, then I was getting a lot of errors when trying to connect to online games. I did a lot of searching and trial and error and I fixed my problem.

I use firefox so I'm pretty familiar with how it is configured. The problem was with internet explorer though. Somewhere in the process of installing a few new programs, could be malwarebites or avg tuneup or a handful of other semi useful pc tools, one of those programs was kind enough to check the box "use a proxy server for your lan". So even though I don't use IE it still effects my connection. To check this/disable this:

Open Internet Explorer.

Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings.

Uncheck the box for "Use a proxy server for your LAN and check the box at the top for "Automatically detect settings"

Hope this works for you, fixed my annoying problem.

I solved the problem the following way on two different computers on my network.

Either start Bojour services if it is not already started or restart it if it shows as already started. Do this by going to control panel>administrative tools>services. Then locate Bonjour in the list of services and highlight it. In the left-hand column, at the top, you will see "start" if it is not already started and "restart" if it is already started. Either start or restart the services. This solved the problem for me.

Hi Guys I am also facing this issue but have not been able to resolve it through any of the solutions suggested in this thread or elsewhere.... :)

The only difference is that I do not get any message, "network timed out" or likewise...

iTunes Store problem solved after hours of work!

I was unable to access the iTunes Store ("Basic connection to the store failed. The network

connection timed out.") until I deleted (not just disabled) the free version of SPEEDbit

Video Accelerator running on my Windows XP.

Good luck!
