Hi,

SPSS told me to try the following, anybody tried a thing like this?

Remove the "Application Data" shortcut (junction) from the "C:\ProgramData" directory:
1. Click on your Start button, select Computer
2. Choose the "Organize" drop-down located in the upper left-hand corner and select "Folder and Search Options"
3. Choose the "View" tab, select the following options, and click OK:

select "Show hidden files and folders"
uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"

4. Navigate to "C:\ProgramData"
5. Locate the "Application Data" shortcut
6. Click and drag the "Application Data" shortcut to another location. For example, your Desktop.
7. Install SPSS.
8. When the installation is complete, you may move the "Application Data" shortcut to its original location.

I am a bit stumped on that one. In NTFS systems there is a 255 character limit on absolute system paths but that is not even close to 255 chars.

What is SPSS? Is this the IBM software? If so, contact them and tell them to fix their installer so it works correctly with Vista and Windows 7.

They should not be using Application Data (Windows 2000/XP) as it's just a Junction that points to AppData which is what Vista and Windows 7 use. You get the path too long because that puts you in a loop.

I agree with Ztruker

C:\ProgramData\Application Data is a Junction that takes you to C:\ProgramData

It will continue until the 255 char limit is exhausted.
