I have a system that is running Outlook 2000 between 50% and 70% in Task Manager. Outlook closes properly and the system returns to normal when Outlook is exited, but as soon as Outlook is started again... right back to 50% CPU usage.

Message format is set to HTML. Outlook is set to use POP3/SMTP with a remote server. This appears to be a recent problem, only noticed since yesterday. The system has been running fine until yesterday since it was set up several weeks ago.

The one interesting and strange behavior that really caught my attention: Even while typing the letters don't appear for several seconds. It is very easy to type far ahead of the program.

System is running Windows XP SP3.

Outlook version is 2000 SP-3 (9.0.0.6627) Internet Only - Security Update

Suggestions?

Thanks!
~Michael
