Hey, I have a ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 card in my laptop and connect to an external monitor with a vga cable. It has worked sweet as in the past and all i'd have to do in use Fn F8 key to toggle between lcd and crt and it would automatically change to the right resolution. Now it does not change when I do this and when i go into display settings and check the extend to desktop box on monitor 2 and click apply it goes to do it but comes back with the box still unchecked? any help would be greatly appreciated

See if you can dig out the "drivers and utilities" cd that may have been supplied with your laptop (this separate driver cd is often supplied so you don't have to re-install with the full recovery cd when all you want to do is restore a damaged driver). I'm not saying that's a definite fix but it's the start of a process of elimination --- eliminating those things it could be before jumping in at the deep end.
