I have used VISTA HP SP1 (32-bit) for quite some time now and never had a problem using "Windows Update" on a manual setting until last week.
When trying to update the program will search and then respond with this message:

"Windows could not search for new updates"
below which is the this additional information:

Error found -
Code 80244019 Windows encountered an unknown error
and a link to help, which does not list the problem I am encountering.

Have searched for code 80244019 and can't seem to find a suitable solution.
Have tried System Restore without success.

Browser: Firefox 3.0.4
AVG 8 free
Spybot S & D
ADSL2+ via DSL-502T modem
Belkin N1 wireless router
OEM Vista disc

Would be grateful if one of you real experts could help me asap.
Please take it easy on me with your answers. I may have some ideas about computers but I'm too old to be considered a "geek". :)

Hello,
Dont know about the too old part but maybe this article will help you.
Also, you might try hooking the machine up directly to the modem, bypassing the Belkin router.

Thanks, hfcg and cyclic, for your comments.

I haven't ignored you but we've had severe storm damage in Brisbane this week and only just got my computer back on line.

Will try and follow your instructions tomorrow and report back asap.

Thanks a million...hansh

Are you trying to get Windows updates with Foxfire, or are you switching to IE for the updates?

Jacee, I always switch to IE for updates, but even that didn't work!

Didn't have any luck with the suggestions from hfcg and cyclic either despite trying all day Sunday.

Finally gave up on repairing the fault the easy way and did a complete re-instal of Vista HP.

That did work and I am once again enjoying full functions of all programs including updates!

Thanks to all for your assistance.......hansh
