Realtek AC '97 sound trouble

there is no sound on my computer, i can't hear any audio from any type of media. i checked the device manager and there is a yellow sign with a black "!". i tried uninstalling and reinstalling but my problem still exist. i right-clicked on it and selected properties and it says [code 10] "the device cannot start."
