Running WinXP Pro

I have a Canon Pixma IP3000 printer that worked very well once. One day out of nowhere it stopped functioning properly. Then it just wasn't recognized by my computer. I tried reinstalling it but everytime I do i get an error:

Cannot install this hardware
There was a problem installing this hardware
The specified module cannot be found

I spent a while on the phone with Canon and they sent me a new one but it has not solved the problem. Someone please help me. I have studied microsofts knowledge base over and over again and have not found an answer.
