I have a HP Pavilion DV9310US laptop and recently formatted it and installed a fresh version of Vista Business. When I plug in the network cable all i get is local area connection. Limited connectivity. I checked the network, cables, restarted modem, laptop, etc. I have 3 other PCs running on the network and all are fine. Before I installed Vista I installed XP PRO SP2 and noticed that i had an error showing next to "1394 Net Adapter" saying it failed to start in the Device Manager. The Ethernet card had no errors which is a Nvidia Networking Controller and the driver installed normally. Any help would be great. Thank you!

Hello,
Did you go in to the control panel and
  • Open internet options.
  • And select connections,
  • And select Lan settings,
  • And put a check in the box that says automaticly detect settings?

Ok. so the computer is connected to the router, but not the Internet correct?
Other computers connected to the router are connected to the Internet.
Can you plug the ethernet cable from your modem directly to the computer having problems?
I just want to see if bypassing the router will allow it to connect.
