my son just got a 1GB iPod Shuffle.
so i downloaded and installed itunes (8.01).
but iTunes didnot detect the iPod - though the iPod and its contents were visible as a removable drive in 'my computer'.

i uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes more than 4 times - without success.

the message i got (after the iTunes took about 5 minutes to load and show up) was that iTunes was not properly installed and needs to be reinstalled.

do i need to give more info?
please let me know.

regards
biren

When the PC recognises your Shuffle but iTunes doesn't, Apple recommends using the Reset Utility here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1238

For Windows XP, not Vista.

ok

umm im not sure how different it is on XP because im on vista but it should be relatively the same:

1) Start, control panel
2) go to control panel home, its on the left side toolbar.
3) Hardware and sound,
4) device manager
5) then under the universal serial bus controllers. click the +
6) find the ipod entry and click uninstall...
7) then take ur ipod out, put it back in and it should install them again

hope it helps

did that.
ipod installed after i rebooted the comp.
but opening the iTunes, i got the message:
s/w required for communicating with ipod is not installed correcxtly. please reinstall iTunes to install the ipod software.

this was the message i got when i first installed iTunes, and reinstalled it 4 or 5 times there after.

should i get frustrated?
