cant load games on dvds in windows xp

hia hope someone out there can help me, when im trying to load games from a dvd i get the message D:\ is not a valid win 32 application anyone got any ideas why this is and what i can do to fix this problem as you may guess im a novice and dont know much about pc,s thanks for your help in advance. PS i use windows xp operating system many thanks Gavin
