Hi there, you may have had this complaint before, but basically I cannot install Hijackthis, I cannot run or install Superantispyware, Malwarebytes etc.

I have AVG which picks up some small seemingly non-major things like cookies.

I have used CCcleaner to look for any registry faults, that hasn't helped either.

Any antivirus website is either blocked or directed away from to random spam sites, so I cannot run online scans.

When I click HJInstall.exe, nothing happens but task manager tells me it's running... It also does this with other programs...
When I cllick on SuperAntiSpyware however it says an error has occurred and must shut down. Same goes for the SuperAntiSpyware install executable.

Any suggestions!?!?!

I am using a different desktop, so I can use my USB key to download stuff here and then take it to my infected computer...

Any help will be greatly appreciated
Raph.

P.S. the reason I am not looking at the existing "cannot install Hijackthis" topics is because I have been told that each computer is unique and I would be foolish to try regedits and fixes that apply to somone elses computer...

Very sound advice.

Okey Dokey I may need to run several programmes before I find the key to this but bear with me as in 99% of the cases it can be cured.

I will start of with an easy one first, if it does not work let me know and I will ratchet it up a notch

Download OTViewIt to your desktop.
  • Close all windows and double click OTViewIt
  • Place a tick in the Scan all Users box
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • On completion it will produce two logs on the Desktop, post the OTViewIt.txt and Extras.txt logs in your next post.

OK this approach should work

Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.

Double click on Combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a HijackThis log so we can continue cleaning the system.

Ok, I renamed combofix and it ran, so the log is attached.
I also renamed the HJInstall.exe file and that worked, but the log won't attach. so here it is:

OK looks like we are on a roll, you should be able to connect with the infected system now. But, you do not appear to have an AntiVirus installed

Please select one of the three from this list, download and install

Avast
Avira
AVG

THEN

Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

     :Reg
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\qoMcyWMg]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet003\Services\TDSSserv.sys]

    :Files
    c:\windows\system32\TDSSxfum.dll
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\TDSSpqlt.sys
    c:\windows\system32\TDSSoiqt.dll
    c:\windows\system32\TDSSrtql.dll
    c:\windows\system32\TDSShrxr.dll
    c:\windows\system32\TDSSlxwp.dll
    c:\windows\system32\TDSSlrvd.dat
    c:\windows\system32\qoMcyWMg.dll
    c:\windows\system32\qoMcyWMg.dll
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\TDSSpxst.sys

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]

  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.

  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3

Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

THEN

To ensure that I get all the information this log will need to be attached (instructions at the end) if it is to large to attach then upload to Mediafire and post the sharing link.

Download OTScanit to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.
  • Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
  • Open the OTScanit folder and double-click on OTScanit.exe to start the program.
  • Check the box that says Scan All User Accounts
  • Check the Radio button for Rootkit check YES
  • Check the Radio buttons for Files/Folders Created Within 90 Days and Files/Folders Modified Within 90 Days
  • Under Additional Scans check the following:
    • File - Lop Check

    • Reg - BotCheck

    • File - Additional Folder Scans

  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.

Please attach the log in your next post.

To attach a file, do the following:
  • Click Add Reply
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on Posted Image to insert the attachment into your post

Ok I think I've done all you said correctly, by the way I already have AVG, it is possible that while one of the scans was running I had the resident shield switched off, but I also had my internet switched off too...

Yep I see AVG now

Start OTScanit. Copy/Paste the information in the quotebox below into the pane where it says "Paste fix here" and then click the Run Fix button.

[Unregister Dlls]
[Files/Folders - Created Within 90 days]
NY -> dPI19 -> %SystemRoot%\System32\dPI19
NY -> sX3i19 -> %SystemRoot%\System32\sX3i19
[Files Created - Additional Folder Scans - Non-Microsoft Only]
NY -> IUpd721 -> %AppData%\IUpd721
[Extra Registry Entries]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\TDSSserv.sys]  ->
[Empty Temp Folders]

The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. Click the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here along with a new Hijackthis log.

I will review the information when it comes back in.

THEN

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Also let me know of any problems you encountered performing the steps above or any continuing problems you are still having with the computer.

Ok, I ran the fix, then did another Hijackthis log, then installed, updated and ran the anti-malware program, and everything seems to be working normally again. I can install and run programs freely, AVG updates normally and google no longer redirects me to spam sites.
I'm prob gonna run SuperAntiSpyware and AVG and other stuff just to be sure but thank you very very much for all you help!!!
Can you recommend anything to make sure this never happens again??

Here are the logs by the way: 1.OTScanit:

That looks good :)

Nice to get an easy one now and then. Subject to no further problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean :)

A good workman always cleans up after himself so...Download and run this small programme and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself. MBAM can be uninstalled via control panel add/remove along with ERUNT. But they may be useful tools to keep

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.

XP
Now to get you off to a good start we will clean your restore points so that all the bad stuff is gone for good. Then if you need to restore at some stage you will be clean. There are several ways to reset your restore points, but this is my method:
  • Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > System Restore.
  • On the dialogue box that appears select Create a Restore Point
  • Click NEXT
  • Enter a name e.g. Clean
  • Click CREATE

You now have a clean restore point, to get rid of the bad ones:
  • Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > Disk Cleanup.
  • In the Drop down box that appears select your main drive e.g. C
  • Click OK
  • The System will do some calculation and the display a dialogue box with TABS
  • Select the More Options Tab.
  • At the bottom will be a system restore box with a CLEANUP button click this
  • Accept the Warning and select OK again, the program will close and you are done

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:
It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide How did I get infected in the first place ?
Keep safe
