Hello

As the title implies, I am a total novice when it comes to things like registries, logs and anything to do with virus removal - so please bear with me, and I do apologise that I haven't been able to succinctly describe the issues I am having.

My problems started last night, when I noticed an issue with my internet explorer. Every time I downloaded a page on the internet, another session of the internet would automatically pop up and it would open some type of advertisement. My internet connection also kept dropping out, and it came up with a message saying that it was trying to connect to some server name which I did not recognise at all.

After running my virus removal software (Trend Micro) last night, it still didn't fix the problem, and thank goodness I stumbled upon your website this morning.

I have followed all of the steps that were suggested in the Malware Cleaning guide, and the Malwarebytes scan removed about 20 different things. Everything seems to be fixed with the internet now - insofar as I'm not getting the unwanted sessions of the internet popping up anymore.

I am now left with a couple of remaining issues. When I first login to my computer, I get the following RUNDLL message in a pop-up box:

---------------------------
RUNDLL
---------------------------
Error loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\ruyoneta.dll

The specified module could not be found.

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Also, I have run the Malwarebytes scan a couple more times, and each time it brings up 1 object infected (which I remove), but it comes back each time I re-boot my computer. It says the vendor is Trojan.Agent, and there is a reference to "pilumedudo". The Malwarebytes log file says: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\pilumedudo (Trojan.Agent) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully." - BUT it comes back each time I reboot my machine.

Following your instructions, here is a copy of my HijackThis log:

If anyone is able to help me resolve the remaining issues, I would be extremely grateful. Can I just say that I think this website is awesome. I'm an Australian Mum of 3, with no expertise at all when it comes to how computers actually work. Your guidelines really are foolproof, and I believe most of the infected files have been removed by following the steps you suggested. I couldn't be more thankful.

Thank you in advance,

Kylie

Hello, my name is fenzodahl512 and welcome to Geekstogo.. Please do the following...

Please make sure you disable ALL of your Antivirus/Antispyware/Firewall before running ComboFix.. Please visit HERE if you don't know how.. Please re-enable them back after performing all steps given..

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from one of the locations below, and save it to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.

If ComboFix asked you to install Recovery Console, please do so.. It will be your best interest..

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a fresh HijackThis log in your next reply..

Note: DO NOT mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Hi fenzodahl512

Thank you so much for assisting me. Here are the two logs. I still got the RUNDLL error when it rebooted. I ran the Malwarebytes scan again and this time there were no infected items, so it looks like this problem might be resolved.

:) Good news. I just rebooted my machine again, and the RUNDLL error didn't come up at all, so I *think* everything may be fixed. I will wait for confirmation from you that the logs look OK. Thank you! :)

1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start, then Run
  • Type notepad.exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

KillAll::

Driver::
suueiuku5eoa

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fifycoow.exe

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

Looks good from my eyes.. Lets do an online scanner to make sure we got them all.. Do this when you want to sleep or when you don't use the computer, as it will take long time to finish..

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts. A log will appear (JavaRa.log), please post the contents of this log on the forum.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.

NEXT

Please run the Kaspersky Online Scanner

In Microsoft Windows Vista, you must open the Web browser using the Run as Administrator command. From the Desktop right click the icon to open the browser and choose Run as Administrator.

  • Click on SCAN NOW
  • Click Accept.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded locate the Scan Settings and have it scan My Computer.
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it finish.

When the scan is done, in the Scan is complete window, any infection is displayed.
There is no option to clean/disinfect, however, we need to analyze the information on the report.

To obtain the report:
Click on: Save Report As
  • Next, in the Save as prompt, Save in area, select: Desktop.
  • In the File name area use KScan, or something similar.
  • In Save as type: click the drop arrow and select: Text file [*.txt]
  • Then, click: Save

Posted Image

Copy and paste the Kaspersky Online Scanner Report in your next reply.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

Post me Kaspersky Online log in your next reply :) ..

Thank you. My internet connection is playing up, so I will run the other scan overnight or tomorrow and will post the report once it's done.

Hi!

Just a question about deleting that file. Isn't that the backup of my email inbox (or something of that nature)? The file is 1,075,345Kb, and I think it could be my active or archived emails. I'm not really keen on deleting it....but there must be an infected email in there somewhere.

My computer is running brilliantly. My initial problems have totally disappeared!

Ah.. my bad.. Sorry for my mistake..

Anyhow, there's email in your inbox that is actually infected.. Most probably those with the attached files.. I don't know which one, but I believe you should know which to delete right? :)

Other than that, log looks great.. I believe you are good to go..

Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK
Please note that the space between combofix and /u is needed

:) Thank you, I will go through my emails and will delete any that include attachments from people that I don't know (usually I do this as a matter of course, but I have already discovered a couple of suspect ones in my inbox).

Thank you fenzodahl512 whoever you are, wherever you are. You have saved me a lot of heartache and I now have peace of mind that my computer is running optimally, and that the nasties have been zapped.

The service that Geeks to Go is offering is nothing short of amazing - I will be sure to spread the word. The fact that selfless people like yourself are giving up your time to help others is truly inspiring. I am very grateful for your assistance, and am off to leave you a donation as a small token of my appreciation.

With thanks,

Kylie
