i just did the update driver in the device manager, think i should go through the nvidia site?

Yes, you need to go through the site.

Roll back what you have if you want --- the new driver I'm going to have you go through will fix it in either case.

Follow this link - it is the page which lists the right driver for you.

Place a check mark in the I agree box, and download the drivers.

This is a setup file, so place it on the desktop for easy access. When you finish downloading it, close everything out and open that install file. Click through the wizard and it will install the drivers for you. When it asks you to reboot, do so. This should fix the resolution issue, and will hopefully install the NVIDIA Control Panel.

Keep me updated. If you run into any problems, stop what you're doing to ask. We don't want things to get worse.
