Re-run it again and when it asks for the disc do you have the option to select a directory ?

If so point it to C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles

IN that case you will need to download SP2 and slipstream it. Or go for a repair install, none of your data will be affected by this procedure you will just get a whole new set of windows files

I tried the 2d method first and after a long wait I got several fatal errors (log file) which I am unable to access. Now I am unable to go back to the last known configuration as each time I boot up, it will run into the setup mode to complete the installation.

So currently I am unable to access my pc at all.

My disc looked scratched so I tried cleaning the surface but it did not work. Also tried to duplicate the disc, and using it to install but it failed as well. I am unable to skip the installation process. Is there any other solution for this? I am thinking of reformating the drive but that is the last resort.

Lets try this then

Restart your computer and keep pressing F8 until the menu comes up
Select start Windows normally
You should then have two options set up or your normal windows
Select normal windows
Then try to install SP3 from there see if that cures the problem.

I will do some more research as you main problem is that windows is a bit messed

Did you mean SP2 or SP3 and which link should I download SP3 from? Is it right that if I select normal windows it will lead me to command prompt?

I feel that was probably the best option as you were moving from one corrupted file to another at least this way you now have a good fast system

I will give some security advice for you though, if you have any further questions I will keep this thread open for a day os so

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes: It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide How did I get infected in the first place ?
Keep safe :)

Hi there,

thanks for the advice. Just one question, the link to windows update, is there any other way to download the entire SP3 just like the other time when all I needed was to download SP2 from a separate link? Now I am running on SP2 is there a need for me to upgrade to SP3 as well?

SP3 Link I would recommend that you get it as it fixes some security points and makes the system more reliable
