I recently used a file undeleter to get back some word documents and now word wont recognise them.

When i open it up it comes up with a "File conversion - chronology" box with lots of conversion types, none of which make the file readable.

Has the data been corrupted or is there some way to retrieve it?

Since retrieving the files i have also installed a different version of word, so this may be the problem.
