Hi again.

I did what you wrote, and Windows Explorer only found the Nail.exe file. The instant i pressed delete it just reappeared.

The other 2 files couldnt be found.

I ran into further problems now. The Trojan hunter finds something i called Agent 167, and Ewido pops up with multiple exe files and refers them as trojan.cp files.

So all in all things seems to be getting worse :-(

Here is my fresh HJT log:

Hang in there, were getting somewhere.

Removing that entry with the reg file that I had you do may have uncovered the root of the problem

Reboot into Safe Mode and delete this file

c:\windows\system32\uctlzd.exe

Then Killbox

c:\windows\Nail.exe

and click Delete on reboot.

After that, reboot and check these entries in HJT.

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xpbzwd] c:\windows\system32\uctlzd.exe

Close all other windows and click Fix checked. Then reboot and post a fresh HiJackThis log.

Finally it seems like the nail.exe has dissapeared.............

But....the file that you mentioned
c:\windows\system32\uctlzd.exe\uctlzd.exe couldnt be found.

So it did the other things you described.

Trojan hunter keeps finding agent.167 in my memory, and Ewido keeps popping
up whit what seems to be randomly named exe files. The path to all of these files however seems to be in c:\windows\system32\

Here is my new HJT log:

I am seeing those files also. Give this a try.

Go into Windows Explorer and cruise to C:\Windows\System32

Click View, then Arrange Icons By, then Modified. Find any files that have been modified in the last few days and post their names here.

the 3 latest modified files in C:\Windows\System32 are:

mrt.exe...........modified 07.05.2005
jupdate-1.5.0_02-b09.log ...........modified 05.05.2005
wpa.dbl...........modified 01.05.2005

Now i took a closer look at the information Ewido gives, i.e. it tells
me that a file named C:\Windows\System32\vhnoyly.exe is infected with
trojan.agent.cp. that file is modified 15.06.2002. I have only had this PC since march 2005.....

Furthermore Ewido refers to infected files, but the files doesnt seem to be placed in the path that Ewido describes...........

Seems odd.

If ewido points to a file that it found that was infected, it likely removed the file.

The file that started your problem may well have been on your computer before the actual symptoms occurred.

All of those files that you listed are good.

How are things running now?

My PC has been running for a few days, and everyting seems fine.

I scanned with both Ewido and Trojan Hunter, and the only file found was a tracking cookie.

So i hope this is the end of it.......

Youre help has been absolutely outstanding, and i cant even begin to thank you enough, but i will give it a shot anyway "thank you" "thank you" "thank you" "thank you" "thank you".

Finally i only have one question, do you have any suggestions to how i should protect my PC against similar attacks.

My company have given me NIS 2005, but i think i read somewhere, that NIS isnt all that good.

Which combination of anti vira program would you recomend.

I hope that this is the last time i have to talk to u guys :tazz:

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
  • Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
  • Weather Watcher - Free taskbar weather program that is free, malware free, and resource light.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein
