RAM not showing in my computer properties

I recently upgraded my DDR2 RAM to 4gig but its only saying theres 3.25gig

The guy at the shop said it is because my computer doesnt have the latest updates but it does

Windows XP 32 Bit will theoretically recognize up to 4GB - Realistically it will only see 3.25GB, however. To get the full 4GB you'd have to upgrade to a 64Bit OS.
