Well I just recently noticed that ScanningProcess.exe is always running starting when I boot up my computer every time. What exactly is it? I looked it up and its from a Antivirus Program called ZoneAlarm, but I don't have that anti virus. I have a different one. Why is it running on my computer, it makes my computer a bit slower than usual because it uses up some of my resources.

Thanks.

ScanningProcess.exe is not unique to ZoneAlarm. It's also installed with 'PC Tools Antivirus' and 'EZArmor'.
If you aren't running any of these then it could be a leftover from ZoneAlarm. Start the Windows Configuration Editor by going Start-->Run, type MSCONFIG and click 'OK'. Click the 'Startup' tab and look for "ScanningProcess.exe" in the list -- untick it and click 'OK.

Now Reboot and that file should no longer be loaded. You will get a box open up reminding you that you've used msconfig to disable something. Choose "Do not show this reminder each time I restart Windows" then click'OK'.

ZoneAlarm is a firewall, not antivirus, but in any case, if you never had it installed, scanningprocess.exe may be a sign of infection by beagle.dz trojan

I suggest you go to the Malware Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post a HiJackThis Log in THAT forum. If you are unable to run and/or post a HJT log, then post that in your initial post in the topic you create in that forum.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

Well before I do that, I have a question. I just recently got the latest software update from Verizon Internet Security Suite. Thats when I noticed the ScanningProcess.exe in my Task Manager. Could it be part of that?

ScanningProcess.exe is not malware, so I wouldn't head over there

Sounds like its related to Verizon

Sure is, seems Verizon installed a real-time scanner

CLICK HERE to download the HijackThis Installer:
  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
  • Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.

  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the "Config..." button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Check off the 2 boxes next to the Box that says "Generate StartupList log"
  • Click on the button "Generate StartupList log"
  • Copy and past the StartupList from the notepad into your next post

Click Start > Run > MSConfig > Select "Startup" tab

Uncheck the box beside this

IndexCleaner = "D:\Program Files\Verizon\Verizon Internet Security Suite\IdxClnR.exe"

Reboot does that stop it ? I think you may have to live with it as it can be pretty tough to fully disable the Kaspersky security program that came bundled with Verizon

Well I'm guessing its not possible :/ It doesn't show up in the MSConfig Startup tab...

Its kind of annoying since it uses up around 10,000-35,000 of Memory.

OK here's the rub fellow geeks. I have also recently installed Verizon security suite. If you bring up Task Manager, order by CPU you see Scanning Process chunking away at CPU. Right clicking on it seems to stall it and you see the CPU usage drop. If you end the process everything else takes off like a bat outa Heck. Then the Scanning Process starts back up again.

I do believe this may be tied in some way to the firewall. What I am going to try to do tonight when I get home to the other hardware is going into Verizon Security Suite and turning off the fire wall, then checking the task manager.

I had massive malware on this machine and recently and had to resore from the Dell supplied disk. I believe this scanning process is the result of left overs.

I suggest trying to fix this by uninstalling all the Verizon stuff on your system.
You will need to install other security software, but I'd recommend individual products rather than an Internet Suite. Too many of them have problems that hose your entire system when they get a little bit out of kilter.

I can recommend the free Avast or free Avira anti-virus, and I use the free Windows Defender Anti-Spyware along with the Windows firewall.

You may want to visit the Malware forums here also - just to be sure that there's not an infection causing this.

If this is a DSL thing that's installed, contact Verizon and insist that they talk you through a manual network setup so that you can function over the DSL line.
