hey guys

i oc my card. it is a rather old card. when i start up win mp i get dot like so ......... in a red or blue color. the dots show up around the lower part of the 3rd quad, by the start button. should i get some fans to cool the card down? i have mbm 5 installed on the pc. it show that my case heat is around 46 and my cpu is at 32. i have thought about adding 2 blow holes on the case and maybe 2 or 3 intakes. will lower my temp to around 40 and 29?

If you're going to overclock anything you always need to upgrade the cooling system for whatever it is. With video cards when you get snow (the dots you are seeing) that is having to do with your graphics core (GPU). It is either too hot, or oc'd too far. If you cool it down a bit it may run smoothly at the same speed, or it may not. I think cooling it down with some more fans and/or a better heatsink on the card will definitely help your overclock. Keep in mind you can only go so far until you will need to up the voltage or you may just hit the top oc your gpu can handle. If you run into randomly shaped mismatches on your screen (Artifacts), remember those have to do with overclocking the video card's memory.

i might get some fans next week, but do you think i should lower the core clock the default was 270 or so. i have it now up to 280. the mem clock started off like at 375 and i put it up to 455. if i go over 470 i get constant lines of the snow. so what heat sink do you think will work best?

There are many others. Just search for VGA Silencers. Remember I cannot guarantee that it will allow you to oc more, but if heat is the issue then a VGA Silencer should help.
Also I might add that you may just have the processor maxed out. Either way, better cooling never hurt anyone.
