Hey guys, I just received a basic Dell Inspiron 530 with no PATA compatibility. I want to use the slave HDD from my old computer (the drive is a Seagate Barracuda ATA IV) as a slave in this one, but every PATA to SATA converter that I've looked up only has one SATA slot, which I assume is to connect the drive to the motherboard. I also assume that I would need to connect the power supply's SATA cable that leads to the master drive into the slave, but how would I do that if the converters only have the one SATA slot and the 4-pin socket? It doesn't make sense. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

You can get a 4 pin molex to sata cable connector here.

They also have a kit for PATA drives.

The real problem i have had is with cheap data pata to sata cables. I have bought 2 that did not work at all. I did buy the directron cable kit and it does work but i have had problems with keeping the connections on the converter. a couple of times i have had to unplug and replug the cable to get the computer to boot up( i am using the pata drive as the sata0 drive). SO, i don't recommend using a adapter but instead think it would be a better idea to just buy a SATA hard drive for your second HD. Perhaps use the PATA drive in a USB adapter as a short term storage drive. I also do not recommend using USB drives as 2nd data drives in computers, as i have had failures in these also. My choice is to just buy the correct drives needed for the job you want done. I do not rely on powered drives for long term storage but instead use DVD's for that.

Thanks for the reply, but I actually need the opposite of what those adapters do. The Sabrent kit is what I kept coming across, but my computer's power supply does not have an IDE cable to connect to; it's all SATA. So what I need to find is something that connects the SATA power supply cable into the 4-pin socket on my PATA drive. It appears as though those converters are to connect 4-pin power connectors to work with SATA drives. I believe what I need would be referred to as having a male SATA end (like what is on a SATA drive) with a female PATA end (like what a power supply's IDE cable would have), but I cannot find anything like this.
