Hello,

I reinstalled my XP Home os on my Compaq V2000 laptop. Now, I get no sound when playing music and I get the following DirectX error message when trying to play a game:

please make sure you have directX 8.1 or higher installed. Also varify that your video card meets the minimum requirements

In device manager, i get yellow question marks next to "Other devices". When I press the Windows key & the R key on the keyboard, and type the sndvol32 command, and press the Enter key I get the following error message:

There are no active mixer divice available

.
I downloaded SP3 but I still get this problem. What can I do to get back my sound?

Go to Compaq's website and download the drivers from there. You need to do this for each device listed as "Other Devices", otherwise you'll have issues such as choppy video, no sound, on occasion other issues too.

I am having some problems finding drivers on Compaq HPs website for 1. Mass Storage Controller , 2. Multimedia Audio Controller, 3. Network Controller, 4. PCI Modem, 5. SM BusController, and 6. Video Controller (VGA compatible). I thought these drivers would have been on the XP cd.

1. PCI\VEN_104C&DEV_8033&SUBSYS_3091103C&REV_00\4&13826118&0&4BA4
2. PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_3091103C&REV_02\3&13C0B0C5&0&A5
3. PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4318&SUBSYS_1355103C&REV_02\4&13826118&0&10A4
4. PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4378&SUBSYS_3091103C&REV_02\3&13C0B0C5&0&A6
5. PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4372&SUBSYS_3091103C&REV_11\3&13C0B0C5&0&A0
6. PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5955&SUBSYS_3091103C&REV_00\4&2C0D4F31&0&2808

Did you go here: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_la...p;submit=Go+%BB, and select your specific model?

Just to clarify, when you go to the drivers site, you aren't looking for a "Mass Storage Controller" driver. Here's what you are missing, and the drivers you should be looking for.

1. Mass Storage Controller = SATA Hard Drive or Media Card Reader driver
2. Multimedia Audio Controller = Sound driver
3. Network Controller = NIC or Wireless Card driver
4. PCI Modem = Modem driver
5. SM BusController = Chipset driver, and
6. Video Controller (VGA compatible) = Video Card driver.

Thank you very much The Admiral, Broni and Neil Jones. Your advice was very helpful. I downloaded the drivers from the link below and it works perfect now. The sound works great, no more choppy video, or erratic mousepad movements. Wireless now detects networks within range and I also resolved other problems I did not know existed until I downloaded and installed the drivers. As a result, Ive also copied the drivers to an external backup harddrive so that when I reinstall the OS again, I will not have to get them from Compaq. Thanks again! :)
