Hi,

Any idea how you got infected? This is important to know...

* Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

to be honest i do not know how i got infected. this is how it went though. i turned on the computer, checked the usual websites i usually daily check, and left the computer on to go eat. the only windows that were open were firefox (with gmail on the page) and AIM. when i was done eating i came back and it was at the log in screen.

Hi,

I see you have Viewpoint installed...
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.co...cle.php/3561546
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
As far as I can see from the Combofix log (since you have ran Combofix more than 1 time), it appears that the issue is already resolved since I cannot find any reference to the malware you were dealing anymore.

Please check if the following file still exists:

c:\documents and settings\Nick\Application Data\Google\spcffwl.dll

If so, delete it.

Then, I notice from your log that there's more than 1 Antivirus installed. Avira and Mcafee
Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously!
The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with eachother, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown.

So you have to make a decision here and keep the Antivirus you prefer and uninstall the other one.
Then reboot after uninstalling.

Then, * Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

i uninstalled viewpoint madia player.

yes i ran combofix twice because the first time i accidentally ran it in safe mode (wasn't sure if it would have mattered if it was in safe more or regular boot up).

the file was still there was was deleted.

i was wondering what you would recommend for an antivirus (freeware)

it seems like everything is going smooth so far so thank you once again! =D

i was wondering what you would recommend for an antivirus (freeware)

The one I recommend is Avira, but you have it already installed. If you want to keep Avira, make sure you uninstall Mcafee.

Glad I could help. :)

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!

i was wondering if these were good to have.

a-square free
spybot-S&D
AntiVir PE Classic
Comondo (for firewall)

well i am not sure about comondo...i might not add that one if AntiVir does that..

Hi,

Those look OK.
If you want to install Comodo, make sure that you uncheck the "Antivirus" option and the Comodo Toolbar.
