i currently have a comp with a 466mhz processor in and ave another unit with a 2.4ghz in it can i swao them round or is there other factors i need to look at first both are intel.

There are A HUGE number of different factors to check and see. Are they the same socket (Socket 6, Slot 1, Socket 7, LGA775 so on), within that are they the same model (both Pentium or both Pentium II or both Pentium III and so on). Honestly, judging by the frequencies you ARE NOT going to be able to swap them, they will be COMPLETELY different systems.
