I have a E Machine lap top running Windows XP 2000. When booted it shows the everything as normal -- but after being on for a few minutes the screen turns black. When looking closely you can see the icons through the black. When closing the top for a couple of seconds and re-opening it the black is gone and the screen displays normal. But after a couple of minutes the screen goes black again. You can continue and the problem continues to exist. Need some help.

It could be any number of things, but it sounds like something going on with the inverter board... or a cable going to/from it. If the laptop is under warranty, I would execute the warranty for repair. If it's not under warranty, you may have to take it to a repair shop ($$$), or investigate how to repair it yourself.
