Arial font is displaying in italics in all programs with italics selec

Hello,

I noticed today that all the programs that have arial as a font selection are displaying the font in italics even though the italics option is not selected. I've noticed this problem with word, aim, jwpce which is a japanese dictionary program and with firefox. does anyone know the cause for this or how to fix it? I have run malware bytes and spybot search and destroy and both things came up with no threats or malicious items.
