Okay, another n00b with an annoying n00b question I HOPE someone can help me with.

My daughter d/l'd something called IMVU...a program where you can play dress-up, apparently, though it also has a chat component.

Anyway, my wife didn't want our daughter to be on it and today she attempted to delete the program (through add/remove.) An hour later, it was still removing the program and didn't seem to have made any progress.

So, she cancelled the "remove" but when she did, she noticed loads of her personal files were gone from the desktop (photos, images she had saved, etc.) In some instances, the folders are still visible, but they are empty.

Also, she cannot now get online. Our connection is not being recognized.

What have we done, and can we get things back? I'm not at home, but I believe she tried system restore to no effect.

I really, really, appreciate any help. Thanks.
